Curiosity as a way of life
Everything changes when you see it up close.
I have always been interested in the distance between what we are taught about people and what we discover when we actually meet them.
America, State By State
Fifty states. One endlessly Unfolding American story.
What began as a teenage curiosity became a family journey through all fifty states from every state capitol and major city to small towns, backroads, and places we might otherwise never have known.
We went to see America for ourselves: its landscapes and histories, its people and local traditions, and the remarkable variety contained within one country.
Along the way, we sought out Jewish life in every state, encountering thriving communities as well as remnants of worlds that had nearly disappeared.

Stories that stay with me.
I write about the encounters, histories, questions, and moments that remain with me. My writing spans America, identity, Jewish life, memory, public life, conflict, faith, and the human experiences that connect them.
Some stories I tell in my own words. Others are stories I have found myself part of, told by writers and publications along the way.
Around the World
Travel is my way of understanding.
Travel has taken me into communities shaped by war and peace, faith and politics, memory and loss, poverty and resilience.
Again and again, it has taught me that the world becomes more complicated and more human the closer you get to it.
I travel to listen, to understand, and to encounter places on their own terms. Every journey leaves me with a person, a question, or a story I carry forever.

History & Collection
The past is not as distant as we think.
I grew up with history carried through family, community, objects, stories, and identity.
That has led me to seek out and preserve documents, books, photographs, artifacts, family records, and forgotten stories, some tied to my own family, others to Jewish and American history.

About Dov
Rooted in one world. Curious about all others.
I grew up in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, in a deeply traditional Jewish world shaped by faith, family, language, history, and continuity.
As I got older, I became increasingly curious about the worlds beyond the one I inherited. That curiosity has taken me across America and into communities around the world, while continually bringing me back to questions much closer to home.
